Was this as far as you could make it? The second step of some poor Santa Barbaran’s home before giving up?
Have you ever wondered exactly how certain items come to land in their locales?
We all probably have something special that we hold onto long after it has lost all relevance. This, I think is a prime example of this. What is really quite impressive though is that this listing, in Santa Barbara, CA, has been up for at least 6 months. As you can imagine, Santa Barbara isn’t exactly a location known for snow, or even ice for that matter. However, this individual, apparently from eastern Canada happens to have included their ice-scraper in their move and is looking to sell it in the most unsuccessful Craigslist listing ever.
This got me thinking about something in particular. I think this poor “2017 electric deicer” speaks to something we all may know something about. Moving can be a big deal in anyone’s life. And of course there are also other events that can shape us. Are there things that you hold onto that remind you of those times?
For me, I keep a chromed intake manifold bolt with the Chevy bowtie stamped into the top of it to remind me of the time my father and I rebuilt the 350 in the truck I drove during high school. I love/hate the actual truck now but I’ll always remember the time shut in the garage, plasti-gauging the crank bearings in the middle of winter.
So what’s it for you? Is there something out there you hang on to? Or in the case of the deicer above, is there something out there you’d love to be rid of?

Last night I went over to my mom’s house to sort old books. Some were pretty nostalgic and hard to get rid of, for instance, my copy of The Hobbit that was the first “adult” book I ever read.

Not a bad choice! I think I read the LOTR series before the Hobbit but it was one of the first for me too.

My file cabinet is full of old crap. There’s class notes from highschool, all sorts of old instruction manuals from stuff that I sold/broke/whatever more than a decade ago, floppy and zip disks with who knows what on it, old bills, etc. etc. Every so often I contemplate going through it and clearing it all up then I realize that would take the good part of day and the only benefit would be...um...I'm not sure what the benefit would be, empty space in a cabinet?
